Miles for that day: 587
Before leaving the area we took one last shower at our campground. This may be the best money spent yet on our journey. See, with our situation what it was at the RV without full hook-up, we had to conserve our water for minimal dish washing and only middle-of-the-night bathroom use. Otherwise, we used the bathhouse that was two campers over from where we were parked. This was fine during the day, but it only housed toilet stalls and two sinks. I will mention that two times, in desperation, I used the sink to wash my hair. No big deal, right? Yes, except for the fact that you had to hold the sink knob in the turned position for the water to flow and the water coming out was ice cold. I will say that my hair has never looked fresher once blown dry. The bathroom was also cool and since the outside temp was around 88 and our generator couldn't run lights and AC without turning off, the bathroom was a nice refuge to wash and dry hair. I am adding these little factoids, not because they necessarily line up with the day, but because as I'm writing some of the memories float in and I know that it provides some entertainment to the people back home.
So, the campground had a grocery store, a general store, a Laundromat and a shower location. The showers were $4.25 for one person and $13.95 for a family. And the water was heated so a win win!
I also used the Laundromat the night before to wash our massive amount of dirty clothes and for two hours I sat in that thickly-heated space. Why you ask, sit inside when it is so refreshing cool outside? Because another fun fact is that our generator had to be turned off at 8, causing us not to plug in any electronics to charge overnight. Why not charge them before eight? Because if you've been reading prior post, then you will recall we have been keeping a rat-race pace, and were never "home" until after dark. So, I needed to bring every electronic with me to the "mat" and use every accessible plug in to charge them while I waited on the wash. No way was I leaving three iPhones and two kindles whilst I lounged in the cool night air.
After our showers, we took one last opportunity to shop in the general store and pick up any last second souvenir items we couldn't live without.
We headed out of town stopping one last time to take in the Tetons and snap a family photo. Our time in Grand Teton and Yellowstone was wonderful. We loved the cool weather, swimming in Jackson Lake, rafting down the Snake Rive, and seeing lots of wildlife.
The rest of the day was spent driving. We soon left Wyoming and drove through Idaho and into Utah. We stopped in Cedar City, UT for the night at a KOA, our favorite since they always have hook-ups!
Some highlights from that day was the very nice rest area in Idaho, driving through Salt Lake City, seeing a couple of magnificently lit up Mormon temples, and making it to a gas station before we ran out in Nowheresville, UT (my palms were sweaty and when I got out of the truck my knees were literally weak). Up next, Zion National Park!
