Day 7, Friday, June 26th: Jenny Lake and Snake River

On this day, we decided to head to Jenny Lake to do some hiking. We left early in order to beat the crowds. Along the way, we saw an elk grazing in a field with the Tetons in the background. So cool!!
At Jenny Lake we took the boat over, instead of the 3 mile walk, and made our way through the trail to the falls.  We had a great time hiking and seeing the beautiful sites.  We hiked all the way to Hidden Falls and enjoyed the magnificent view.  We spread our blanket out to eat a quick lunch and just before leaving a marmot crossed our path.  Rarely do you get a chance to see so much wildlife in person and close up!
We decided we'd had enough hiking for one day and made our way back down to catch the boat.  We were going to try and catch 2:30 float trip down the Snake River, but it wasn't available.  We had to reserve a spot with the 6:00 slot.  We'd realize later what a good thing that was.
On the way home, we stopped at a pull-off and let the girls change into their suits to take a dip in the Snake River.  When you think of bathing in ice cubes then you'd be pretty close to the temp of the Snake River!  The girls found it mildly  refreshing, but Jay and I were ever so glad to lounge on the blankets while they ran back-and-forth squealing into the water.
Afterwards, we headed "home" for some muchneeded rest.
We went to Jackson Lodge, which was in a campgound close to ours, for our float trip down the river.  We loaded up in a van and took the short trek over to the river.  There we got the usual talk on safety, suited up in our life jackets, and loaded up in the boat, six people on each side.  The float trip was excellent!  The first hour was sunny and the second was cool and shady so we were very glad we rode the six o'clock time and not the 2:30!  Our guide was terrific, and shared many facts about the river, the history and the wildlife that lived among it.  We saw a bald eagle, several beavers and osprey.  We didn't see a moose which was our goal, but it was still an amazing ride.  By the end, the girls were faltering, but who could blame them?
One thing I realized about this area is that you almost always need two sets of clothes because you never know when the weather will cool.  The nights were the best since it got down to the low 50's to high 40's!!  Sleeping with our windows open at night and snuggling up in warm blankets in June is the way to go!
It was another wonderful day among the Tetons.
