Miles traveled on Day 5: 240
First thing Thursday morning we had to move camps. Jay set out to cherry-pick our spot and the girls went to play with their new friends. I was chilling in a chair and the girls came back to camp to check-in when all of the sudden the walkie-talkie announced a coyote was heading our way (the friends the girls made also had walkie-talkies and they were on the same channel. Their dad was nice enough to let us know about the coyote because he'd just come through their camp.) Before we even had time to think an animal that looked like a big fox came scurrying through our camp site. He literally passed in between the girls and I looking both ways as he went. It happened so fast we barely had time to process it. I'm sure he was no real threat to us, but when a random wild animal passes mere feet from you you tend to have a little adrenaline rush!
After getting camp site that allowed a generator we were able to, once again, set up camp. Camping is not easy and people who tent camp either have it easier because they don't have to deal with as many headaches or they're just plain crazy because they do it without all the extras. I like coffee in the morning and lights, so I'm good with being a snoody camper!
We headed into Jackson on this day so the girls could get a work out at a local gym. They were both so excited to get the chance to work out in another gymnastices center and Jay and I were excited about getting four hours to hang out in downtown Jackson. We'd also had a lot of family togetherness so far, and everyone was ready for a break. After dropping the girls off we headed downtown to do some shopping and eat lunch. The first place we headed was the million dollar cowboy saloon, where we literally saddled up to the bar (their bar stools are horse saddles). We really didn't do anything exciting, but sometimes just having the opporttunity to not do much is all right. We picked the girls up at 4 and headed back to our "home."
Our campground backed up to Jackson Lake so we walked out to check it out. What an amazing view! I think this area has become one of our favorite views/spots. It is so peaceful to take in the sight of the water resting against the snow-capped mountains and, in my opinion, there isn't anything more beautiful.
On our way back we noticed several cars pulled over and in this area of the world you know that must surely mean an animal sighting. Sure enough we learned it was a momma fox and her cubs. We stood and watched in wonder as the young foxes ran around and horseplay with each other just like any human sibbling you might know. They really put on a show for all the human watchers.
The new friends the girls made were leaving the next morning so we went by their camp site to say good-bye. We ended up all hanging out around the fire until almost 11. The nice thing about camping is you really do get a chance to meet people. Now the girls have new friend in Oregon and you never know if we'll plan a trip out there to visit!
I know this doesn't look very campy but I think she was watching National Geographic show on Yellowstone, so that makes it ok, right?
