723 total miles traveled
On Thursday we took the train from New Jersey to downtown Philadelphia. The girls really enjoyed the adventure of riding the PATCO. Once we arrived in downtown, we made our way to the visitor center.
Our first stop was the Liberty Bell and I was glad to see how much the girls valued seeing it in person. Afterwards, we made our way to the City Tavern, which opened its doors in 1773. Jay and the girls enjoyed the turkey pot pie and I was a Loyalist with my bangers and mash. After we were refueled with lunch we went on a walking tour of the main sites in the city. My personal favorite was seeing Betsy Ross's house. Another favorite, was seeing the first lending library started by Benjamin Franklin. After the walking tour we made our way over to Independence Hall. Our park ranger, Larry, was an excellent guide and we were able to see the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed! Very exciting historical stuff!
After Independence Hall we were all thoroughly wiped out, but still had time to walk a couple of blocks to Sweet Charlie's, which was an amazing ice cream place. We enjoyed our ice cream in Washington Park and then headed to Jersey.
