Because we are never one to
miss an opportunity, especially if it is a challenging one, we decided to view
the sunrise from the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Not a big deal until you factor in that
sunrise is approximately 4:45 a.m. So
yes, we got ourselves and our two girls up at 3:30 in the morning, piled in the truck, made the 30 minute drive up to Cadillac Mountain, set up our tripod, and patiently/not
so patiently waited for Mr. Sunrise. It
happened and it was all worth it. We
were some of the first to see it in the U.S.
The clouds provided texture to the color and we were rewarded with an
amazing view of God’s handiwork.
Getting up at 3:30 doesn’t
mean you stay up and so we came back to the camper and slept until 9.
We decided the rest of the
day would be an Acadia day and we headed in, first stopping by a lookout of the
lighthouse at Egg Island and a trail that led to some amazing rock cliffs
against the water. Then we drove over to
Sandy Beach. The best way to describe
Sandy Beach is small, crowded, cold, and amazing. The rock cliffs surrounding it are just
beautiful and the water is so cold, it would take your breath away. Of course, the girls had to challenge each
other with going in and reaching a certain level before running back out. I think Georgia won since she basically got
all the way in the 55° water!
Jay and I relaxed in our chairs enjoying the warm sand while the girls
played in the surf and rocks. We packed
up, drove the loop road around Acadia and ended up at Jordan Pond. The girls enjoyed swimming one more time, in
much warmer waters and then we called it a day!
Beautiful view just before sunrise. This photo was taken at 4:15 a.m.
