After looking ahead to the
day we’d planned ending with a Red Sox game at Fenway, we totally caved and
decided to stay at a hotel for the night.
It didn’t hurt that our campground was a 45 drive away too.
After driving in, checking in
to our hotel and relishing in the glory of our room, complete with fluffy
pillows, a shower you didn’t need to wear flip flops in and a view of the city,
we hopped on the train and headed to Boston Commons. There the Freedom Trail began and we quickly
took in many of the historical sites including the Park Church, Granary Cemetery
where Paul Revere and Samuel Adams are buried, and Kings Chapel.
Lunch was held at Union
Oyster House, which is Boston’s oldest restaurant (est. 1826). Our Summerville friends Ryan and Mary, who
are current residents of Cape Cod and our other buddies from Summerville, JJ
and Beth, joined us.
After lunch we walked around
together and picked back up with the trail to see Paul Revere’s home and the
Old North Church. By then we were spent
and knowing we had a game to attend, we headed back to the hotel.
After switching into our Red
Sox gear, we walked over to Fenway Park.
Jay and I, in our history of togetherness have attended many a MLB game,
but I can honestly say Fenway is the best.
We had such a great time and more importantly, the girls loved it. It was a terrific end to a historic day!
